Surprise Gifts
For the second time in his life, my boyfriend moved away for college. The first time was last year. He went a few towns over and came home almost every weekend. This year, he uprooted everything to a town that is only reachable by 1.5 hour long flights or fifty-two hour long bus rides.
Today is our anniversary. He sent me over forty gourmet cookies and two heart-shaped balloons. I’ve posted multiple pictures on all my social media accounts to celebrate (and show off haha!) my delightful surprise. But it just isn’t the same without him here.
Having been in a relationship with someone for six years is an accomplishment to say the least. I started dating my boyfriend when I was in high school. The last six years were not always happy or easy, but the seventeen years before him weren’t a breeze either. If anything, he has taught me to be self-sufficient, to accept the past, to overcome the fear of negative opinions, to slowly forgive the flaws of my parents, and most importantly, to love myself. If anything, he has somehow made my life easier to live.
No matter what happens in our lives, he will always be a big part of my life. Happy sixth year anniversary to us and may the coming years be even better.
