I had absolutely no concept of how easily one could get lost in Central Park. Many people had told me that I wouldn’t be able to see everything, but I foolishly thought I could navigate myself to the specific sites I had planned to see. It wasn’t until I stood in the middle of Central Park, did I realize the lack of signs or straight paths to those landmarks.
I made a list of all the sites to see and activities to do in Central Park. Unsurprisingly, I didn’t complete anything on my list - no carriage ride; I couldn’t find the Alice in Wonderland statue; the zoo was closed; the Shakespeare Garden and Strawberry Fields were further than I had thought; and when we finally found the carousel, it was not in service due to the hot weather.

Coney Island is an iconic destination known for its amusement parks, fair foods and circus acts. Throughout history, it’s been mentioned and featured in countless novels, songs, movies, television shows, theatre productions and even in video games.(For example: F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel The Great Gatsby, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical Love Never Dies, Lana Del Rey’s song “Carmen”, TV shows Ugly Betty and Seinfeld, and even children’s show Dora the Explorer.)

NEW YORK CITY – Review Part VI (Quiet Clubbing)
For the famously claimed “city that never sleeps”, the nightlife in New York was not very thrilling. I comprised a list of approximately fifteen bar options for our week long stay in Manhattan. The places were chosen based on the recommendations of NYmag.com, NYCgo.com, and Yelp. I even researched each establishment’s most crowd frequented nights and weekly themed events. From Monday to Thursday we were overpaying for boredom. Each night, my friend and I went out in search for unforgettable parties and wild characters, only to be let down by a lack of excitement. We couldn’t afford enough costly cocktails to become “happy drunks” either.
On any given night in Toronto, there are always fun parties to attend. Of course, weekends are undoubtedly the most rowdy, but most clubs typically have at least one popular week day. Perhaps I had selected places in the wrong districts, at all the worst days and times (Is 12am or 1am really that late?). But from Midtown to Union Square and China Town, four out of six nights were frustratingly dull.

NEW YORK CITY – Review Part V (Chelsea Market)
While wandering up Ninth Avenue for art galleries, we stumbled upon a quaint marketplace.
In the 1890s, the National Biscuit Company built a two million square feet factory that stretches from Ninth to Tenth Avenue, and up 15th to 16th Street. The former Oreo production house now resides big broadcasting companies like the Food Network and Oxygen Media. Located directly below the corporate businesses is Chelsea Market. Multicultural foods, adorable desserts, and a vast array of shops were set against a back drop of brick walls and exposed pipes. This rustic chic destination was a visual and palatal feast that attracted locals and tourists alike.

Ever since I saw Sofia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette back in 2006, it had been my dream to eat macarons. As soon as I saw the luscious colours on film, and the delicate crumble of soft almond meringue fall from Kirsten Dunst’s fingertips, I was encaptured by this lavish treat. Before that point, the existence of macarons was unknown to me. Online research quickly led me towards the wonderful world of Ladurée.
Not only were their confections featured in Marie Antoinette, it was also enjoyed by fictional character, Blair Waldorf of the hit show, Gossip Girl...

NEW YORK CITY – Review Part III (MoMa Ps1)
Modern art and installations aren’t usually in my top list of must-sees, so I’m glad my friend suggested going to the MoMA Ps1. If the MoMA was eye opening, then the MoMA Ps1 was mind-altering. This Long Island gallery housed an array of mystifying pieces. I was intrigued and perplexed by everything I saw. From hand painted murals to full room installations, each piece challenged our perception of reality and mental boundaries. It makes us reevaluate the way we see the world. I love the way ordinary topics can be turned into multifaceted works of art; how one concept, can result in an astonishing blend of colours, textures, sounds and emotions.
